Oh hey there, where you been?

It has been FAR too long since anything has happened on here... not Touchdown Girls' style at all! So while I have nothing spectacular to report at this time, I at least wanted to come and maintain some presence on the world wide web; before we are forgotten forever!!

I guess SOME stuff has happened in the last week or two. Last weekend Katrina went to Quebec city to party with some friends, and Danica and I stayed local. I was SUPPOSED to go to Renfrew (oh ya, remember that story) Saturday night, but that didn't end up happening so I pretty much hibernated for most of the weekend.

It was spectacular. Weeks of sleep deprivation led up to that point and I have not one regret! Danica spent the weekend with her son, doing some productive stuff that normal people do on weekends. I don't get it at all (lol).
The Sunday was a birthday celebration for two of our teammates though, so we joined forces and actually went out. Leave it to us to go out on the one night of the weekend where the next day is a work day.
We started out at Tennessy Willems. A really great little wood-fired pizza shop on Wellington, with some impressive wine and quite possibly the best mussels I have ever had before. Delish. From there we went to Katrina's place for a couple beer.
From there the group separated, with some going to Barrymore's for their 80's night, and others retiring for the evening (which is the option I chose!). Monday morning hangovers are the worst! A great time was had by everyone, including a few girls in the group who fell in lust at the bar and had a REALLY good night/morning ;) Good for them. Nothing like a little Down N Dirty debauchery!
After that night, not a lot happened... we've actually been very well behaved girls lately! I know, i can hardly believe it myself. This weekend should bring with it some fun though, as tomorrow we are celebrating Katrina's birthday!!!
Not sure exactly how everything is going down tomorrow, but the general idea is that we will go see the Dragon Boat races, head to Katrina's for a BBQ, and then head to the Heart n Crown... which will be nice because I don't really remember the place despite being there for an hour or two and grinding up a storm on the dance floor, allegedly!
A couple of girls from the Renfrew scene are coming to party, so I'm suuuure it is going to be an interesting evening (remember the ones who peed on a front lawn and tried to walk into someone's house??). I'm sure there will be plenty of stories to share on Monday! Until then, I leave you with this:

Cool Runnings, Pukella, and Burt Reynolds are all out to get us!!!

If I told you that we were being followed by Burt Reynolds, would you believe me? I think he may actually be stalking me... waiting in the dark corners of every bar I go to, with his clear, shiny little shot glass of happy juice... waiting for that perfect moment to attack. Always when I least expect it. Or when I order it... whichever comes first.

Ok, let's back up a little bit. Monday night's festivities started with our regularly scheduled flag football game... remember? The whole reason we know each other in the first place?? Ya, that team. So we met at my place before the game, and Katrina watched as I stressed over WHAT TO WEAR!!!! to the post game karaoke activities.

Monday happened to be SUPER muggy, and it looked like it was going to rain any freaking minute. Not cool. Once Danica showed up, we loaded up the Escape with water, changes of clothes, and headed for the field... five minutes late, of course.

We played a pretty good game, considering. When I say considering, I mean considering the fact that we were playing against some dudes who legitimately looked like they ran for Africa in the last summer Olympics. These guys were fast. The rest of the team was good too. I think my favourite part of the game was all the great catches... I mean, there were probably 5 or 6 epic, awesome catches that happened, both our team and theirs. So we lost pretty tragically, but not before the rain came and cooled us off a bit because DAMN it was hot!

After the game ended, we were trying to decide what to do between then and Karaoke time (9 pm) and me, being Little Miss Social Hostess decided my apartment just wasn't trashed enough yet... and invited everyone over for pre-drinks. Smooth move. But I had a serious over-abundance of alcohol still left from the party on Saturday, so it only made sense to share with all my team mates :) We showed up at my place wet, and THIRSTY. I mixed a pitcher of about 3/4 of a 26er of gin and some girly appletini mix shit, and opened a bottle of red wine... and so the festivities began.

Now, as you may have figured out already, we DO like to drink a lot, and I'd say that we're pretty good at it. Despite all the mixing of different types of alcohol, the shots, the lack of eating before drinking some nights, we always seem to make it through the night. We hurt in the morning, but we make it through the night. I would call us weekend warriors, but we don't limit our warrior-ing to the weekends, so it's just not a sufficient title at this point. The problem with this iron-clad, tough bitches exterior that the three of us have, is that not everyone else can always keep up. This is a problem when new people, specifically girls, enter into our world of drinks and shots and more drinks and shots. They try to keep up, and they can't. Next thing you know, this happens:

Yes, that is a girl with her head in a bag
So, as you can probably imagine, a poor, nameless, clueless girl from our team tried to party Touchdown Girl style, and got bit in the ass by the Pukey Monster. Don't worry, we took care of her and brought her home (ya at this point we were already at the Atomic Rooster, the Karaoke Bar... sorry, my memories of that night are a little blurry so this may not all be in chronological order!). Thanks to Eric and Robin for driving her and us home to my place (hence the head in bag picture) because she got kicked the EFF out of the bar for being White Girl Wasted, as my little brother and I like to call it. So we put her to bed with a bottle of water and a puke bucket and Katrina and I went back to the bar. Mission accomplished.

When we got back to the bar, I was pleased to see that it was a lot busier. The place was hopping actually, which I wouldn't have expected for a Monday night. I guess Ottawans really like their karaoke. I think I did a shot first thing when I got there. Which was in addition to the shots I/we took so I could handle Pukella in the bathroom hugging the toilet before we had to leave with her. And the beer. Can't forget about the beer I ingested. Oh, and that red wine lol. I think you get the point. Anyway, I should probably mention that the bartender was super cute. And there were a bunch of other charming men and women there too, so we definitely had fun with that. Katrina did a duet with a hottie, Danica was pretty cuddly with a certain someone for most of the night, and I, well, I'm a bit of a social butterfly and so I flew around the room, doing random shots with random people. Don't really remember much after midnight... But apparently I had a lot of shots bought for me, so that's always cool.

Not THAT kind of shot
The night continued like that; lots of drinking, lots of socializing. Then at the end of the night, came the 'lots of avoiding' part...

So, once again, drunk and appropriately laughed out, we parted ways. I am totally mentioning at this point, that we may have the MOST scandalously delicious flag football team in the history of the OSSC. We just can't keep our hands off of each other! Between the oh-so-naughty Monday team vs Sunday team hookup, a different Monday vs Sunday team front porch makeout session, the... Monday vs.... Monday... whatever it is?!?!? LOL. Anyway, a whole lotta lovin going on. We should probably focus more on winning games and less on screwing each other. But hey, no complaints here, obviously ;)

Katrina and I stopped off at McDonald's for a 2 (or 3?!?) a.m. snack fest in my car, then went and passed out at my place. We were super pleased to see that Pukella hadn't thrown up all over my apartment, so that was one nice thing to come home to. The mess of my apartment wasn't, but there is always a cost to having such a good time. A cost other than my $130 bill!!! (With the tip). We got into bed and snuggled allll night in true Down N Dirty fashion. LOL. Kidding! I can't handle anymore debauchery!!!!!

I just realized that I haven't really talked that much about Karaoke, which was pretty much the whole reason we went out (Some others went out for that reason, I went to clap). So, here's the space where I should tell you all about the karaoke. )Truth be told, I didn't really pay too much attention to it and can't remember) KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE. Some people think small, some people think big, but we think in alcohol

Another weekend has come and gone for the touchdown girls. We, as per usual, made the best of it by getting to see some of the fine spots that our good city of Ottawa has to offer.

Friday night Michelle found herself back in Renfrew (not partying as hard as usual, but throwing off her sleep schedule just enough so that she would have to miss part of our Saturday festivities). What she did in Renfrew... well, you will have to ask her if you see her. Supposedly, it was not all that exciting.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michelle here. I would like to take this moment to clarify the complete lack of debauchery and shenanigans on Friday night, despite popular belief! I need to defend my honour!!! I had two, I repeat, two beer at Coco Jarry's (when I say that, the song from Cheers plays in my head "Where everybody knows your name") and then went home like a good girl. Definitely the most tame Friday night I have had in a while!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which brings us to Saturday. Now, up to this point we have had on and off luck with the weather. This weekend was initially expected to be a disaster due to all the rain that was expected. But with crossed fingers and heads held high we stuck to the plan and hoped for the best. We found ourselves celebrating the best that Westboro has to offer. Every year Richmond Rd. is closed down from Kirkwood Ave. to Golden Ave. so that us, the people, can enjoy a festival called Westfest.

All this really entails is restaurants and stores open up onto the roads, food trucks role into town, entertainers or all sorts come out to perform as well as the occasional giant board game and bouncy castles (which unfortunately we were too big to go on).

Since Michelle was too tired at this point from her night before she will not be mentioned in this section... which is a really sad reality!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sad but true?!?!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danica and I started out said excursion going to watch her son play in a school band. The whole group of middle school children were amazing, but he was quite the sight on keyboard as well as percussion. After 4 very well performed songs we decided that it was time to start the full day of events off right. You guessed it, with a beer (or in my case a cider because that is how I do it when I can).

Our first drink, or at least Danica's first drink of the day took place and The Works in westboro; a well known burger joint with excellent service. Since our car was stacked to the brim with alcohol it really only made sense that we stay for one beer and to get something small to eat so that Danica would have a solid base to start a full day and night of drinking.

From there we were entertained by homemade instruments, balloon animals, acrobats, giant board games, singers, musicians, and food. Now, to say that you are entertained by food may seem like a bit of an exaggerations, but at this festival we were able to get corn on the cob, freshly broken coconut water, crepes filled with pulled pork (or for us girls we stuck to the cinnamon and sugar) and then there were the well known things such as snow cones and popcorn. We found ourselves taking part in every activity offered if it was possible and even found ourselves spending quite a bit of time at the car dealers playing with an old style Subaru... because you are never too big to play with cars!

And thus began the rest of the night.

From Westfest we decided that house hopping for drinks was a swell idea, because there is no better way to enjoy drinking than changing the scenery as much as possible. First we went to our Friends Eric and Robyn's house where we were graciously served a delicious bubbly wine and some port. (For all those who remember the story of Danica in Renfrew... you may be able to guess where this story may lead). A little bit of socializing took place before we moved on to my mothers backyard (an oasis in the heart of the city). Here we enjoyed some more wine! (Do you see a bad pattern starting yet?) We were having so much fun talking about everything from our plans for the rest of the night to being forced into eating corn that we somewhat lost track of time.

Enters Michelle

At this point Michelle was busy getting her house cleaned and food ready for the potluck that was to take place at 6pm. At this point we were only a few minutes late... 7pm about. I am guessing she may (or may not) have been getting pretty excited about our arrival but couldn't start her contribution to the meal due to the fact that she is scared of starting, using or looking at a bbq (the looking part is a tad bit made up, but the everything else is true). Which in the end meant that she had to wait for the men to show up.

We drank our drinks as fast as we could, loaded up the cars and headed straight over to her house where the meal preparation, eating and drinking continued. The food was amazingly delicious, the Burt Reynolds went down smooth as well as the beer, and the laughs continued.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Burt Reynolds went down as good as the beer, the wine, and the Gin!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once the food was gone there was no other choice but to move on to our next location. We once again found ourselves at the Mill St Pub; no doubt on of our favourite places to be. But this was not just a night out to drink, we were there to celebrate a friends birthday as well as his MBA (which pretty much just means he drinks a crap load of beer over time, gets his card stamped and then gets his name on this giant keg). It is more exciting than I make it sound, but there is no better way to explain it. In celebration we took lots of pictures, drank lots of beer and got just a little bit more drunk.

Once the stagnant life at the bar concluded we decided to call a cab for yet another adventure. We were picked up and drove around the corner to The Heart and Crown on Preston. We found the need to dance and listen to live music to finish out the night in style. What started out to be a group gathering quickly turned into everyone dispersing as some of us were at the bar, some of the dance floor, or others well... disappearing (that's Michelle, in case you do not know the usual occurrence at the end of most of our nights together). For me and Danica we danced until the music died down and we could no longer stay on our feet (the 4 or 5 shots we had when we got there did not really help our cause).

The plan for the end of the night was to crash at Michelle's place, but at this point she was a little bit more than drunk seeing she was drinking and sharing a bottle full of Burt Reynolds. Her disappearing act brought her home and into bed passed out, but before doing so she drunkenly followed her usual routine and locked the door which meant the rest of us were locked us out. In the end this wasn't a huge deal as we all found our way home, but lets just say she felt like quite the ass at 4am when reality once again set in!

Oh, and Danica's lesson from Renfrew about not mixing or pre drinking with wine... let's just say by not following it she got a nice swift kick in the face from her friend hangover the next day. Myself and Michelle on the other hand had a lovely picnic while watching the Sunday football team rack up yet another defeat, although it was an exciting and fun game to watch.

Small Town Band, Big Time Performance

First off I will start by saying that Mother Nature was out to get us this weekend as we initially had the plan of enjoying a wonderful day out in the wilderness, but as sometimes may happen plans were cancelled. Primarily our Saturday was meant to be spent on a Kayaking trip with friends, but unfortunately had to be postponed due to potential thunderstorms as well as high wind speeds. Which means that this particular story will have to wait for another time...

Which brings us to our much enjoyed Saturday night where we found ourselves once again out of the city of Ottawa and in Stittsville where we enjoyed out time at the Barley Mow. What brought us there was a band by the name of The Working Class and what made us stay... well that is simple, it was the shots, the drinks the food and the amazing company (both servers as well as friends). The hospitality as well as quality of food was an experience worth sharing as neither were lacking in the least. They made us feel comfortable and were quick to make sure that everyone was getting exactly what they needed.

The highlight of the trip out to Stittsville believe it or not was not the drinks (as shocking as that may be to some of you). Danica's plus one had never found himself out with our group before, but decided that on this night he would like to have the chance to see what she did on her spare. Having him there was a treat on its own, but there was one moment that made the whole experience for him as well as us worth while. Now, something that people may not realize is that each individual of our little group here has something amazing to offer each and every night we get together. On this particular night Michelle was the giver of all that is good. In no way is this girl lacking in thoughtfulness. She always wonders what she can do to make everyone happy. In this instance she made Danica's plus one glow as bright as the stars in the sky. From what I have noticed it is not hard to make him smile, but something that must be mentioned is that this particular individual is a HUGE fan of Johnny Cash.

Michelle as per usual was lucky enough to know the band that was playing and was able to get them to play one of Johnny's songs. The reaction was priceless... as the song slowly began to play I looked over and there he was patting Danica's arm, smiling from ear to ear as he grabbed his phone to record what was playing on that stage. The saying "it was like Christmas morning" is an under statement to what was happening at that exact moment. Even if the night was a total bust, that moment made it all worth while!

Oh, but the night wasn't a bust at all. We sat, we drank... and drank... and drank... and you guessed it, had many shots. With the amazingly talented band playing in the background and the amazing people surrounding us we couldn't help but have fun.

The night ended with Michelle and myself as well as a few of her friends sitting in the pub with no one else around, since a night out isn't officially awesome unless you are the last remaining people in the bar.

The music came to a close, they turned on the lights and they very politely made it clear that our night was slowly but surely approaching the finish line... at least for some of us. We bid farewell to our new server/bartender friend... AND of course Michelle invited them all out to our next get together, because a night isn't a night without making new friends. As we waited outside final decisions were debated, questions were brought forth (which are usually answered with a nod of the head, a unsure smile, and a slight stumble away from the restaurant)

and goodbyes were said leaving us only with the thoughts of what is next to come (or for some of us how many more beers could be consumed before going to bed).
